Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
Navtrac (navtrac.io) is operated by CITS LTD, Unit 7 Initial Business Centre, Wilsons Business Park, Manchester M40 8WN, United Kingdom. You can contact us at navtrac@citsltd.uk.
This Acceptable Use Policy applies to everyone who uses Navtrac — subscribers under the Terms of Service and developers under the Developer & API Terms. It exists to keep the Service fast, fair, and lawful for all users. Breach of this Policy is a material breach of your governing terms and may lead to suspension or termination.
1. Scraping and automated extraction
You must not:
- scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract data from the web application, or automate the web interface to harvest data at volumes inconsistent with normal interactive use;
- circumvent authentication, rate limits, plan limits, or feature gating by any means, including rotating accounts or keys;
- probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, or interfere with its operation.
Developers with an API key should use the API — that is what it is for — within their documented rate limits and scopes.
2. Resale and redistribution of raw data
You must not:
- resell, sublicense, or redistribute raw vessel, port, or compliance data obtained from the Service as a standalone dataset or data feed;
- operate a service whose primary value is re-serving Navtrac data without material added value;
- remove or obscure attribution we reasonably require.
Using data inside your own applications, analyses, and reports — including sharing conclusions derived from it — is fine.
3. Unlawful surveillance and privacy abuse
You must not use the Service to:
- track, harass, stalk, or surveil any individual unlawfully;
- facilitate piracy, hijacking, or other physical threats to any vessel or crew;
- identify or target vessels or individuals in violation of applicable privacy, safety, or maritime-security laws.
4. Sanctions evasion and unlawful trade
You must not use the Service to:
- plan, facilitate, or conceal sanctions evasion, including ship-to-ship transfers or identity spoofing intended to defeat sanctions controls;
- facilitate smuggling, illegal fishing, or any other unlawful maritime activity;
- circumvent export-control or trade-restriction laws of the UK, EU, US, or any other applicable jurisdiction.
Compliance and screening features are provided to help you comply with sanctions law, not to defeat it.
5. Safety-critical use
The Service is not navigation-grade. You must not use it for navigation, collision avoidance, safety-of-life, or emergency-response decisions — see the Data Policy for why.
6. General conduct
- Do not use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
- Do not misrepresent your identity or affiliation when registering or using the Service.
- Do not configure email alerts to recipients who have not agreed to receive them.
- Do not upload malicious content or attempt to disrupt other users' use of the Service.
7. Enforcement and reporting
We may investigate suspected violations and may suspend or terminate access under the Terms of Service or Developer & API Terms, with notice where reasonably practicable. To report a suspected violation of this Policy, email navtrac@citsltd.uk.
